G20日本峰會　美副總統：希望川習取得貿易進展
美國副總統彭斯（Mike Pence）今天表示，他希望川普總統與中國國家主席習近平利用20國集團（G20）日本峰會之便，能夠針對貿易談判取得進展，但是中國必須同意進行改革。

彭斯今天在渥太華和加拿大總理杜魯道（JustinTrudeau）舉行會談，雙方針對相關議題交換意見。

針對中國電信設備巨擘華為技術有限公司的爭議，彭斯指出，中國的法律架構讓政府可以取得華為蒐集到的資料，華為不利於美國與盟邦的安全利益。

去團購人氣產品經典產品年12月，加拿大在美國授權下，逮捕華為財務長孟晚舟。在孟晚舟被捕後不久，加拿大商人史佩弗（Michael Spavor）和前外交官康明凱（Michael Kovrig）在中國遭到拘留，這個月稍早以從事間諜活動罪名正式被捕。

對此，彭斯和杜魯道在聯合聲明中表示，反對中國錯誤關押這兩名加拿大公民，要求立即予以釋放。

加拿大研究新藥物挽救記憶可望延緩老人癡呆、治療憂鬱症

加拿大研究開發新種藥物，有望改善記憶喪失、決策困難及其他好發於老人的症狀，並協助受憂鬱症、精神分裂症和阿茲海默症所苦的民眾。研究發現，老年老鼠在接受藥物的半小時後，具有更好的記憶能力，經過2個月的治療後，老年老鼠原先萎縮的腦細胞再度恢復正常。預計2年內將進行臨床實驗，若結果顯示安全有效，55歲以上可能有認知問題的人將可從中獲益。

《衛報》報導，加拿大多倫多「成癮和精神健康中心」（Centre for Addiction and Mental Health）的副主任、該研究的首席科學家西貝爾（Etienne Sibille）表示，治療不僅針對年老的「常態」認知衰退，還針對憂鬱症、精神分裂症、阿茲海默症所導致的記憶喪失或精神傷害。

研究團隊在14日美國華盛頓舉行的美國科學促進會（American Association for the Advancement of Science）年會上，發表有關該藥物的專利。

研究人員希望能夠在人體進行臨床實驗，預計首次試驗將是憂鬱症患者，西貝爾解釋，憂鬱症患者得到緩解時，記憶力差及其他精神障礙往往同時復發。若藥物研發成功，「我們可能對這些病患的人生產生重大影響」。

服藥「老」鼠年輕過來幼鼠提高抗壓

研究人員在迷宮內對老鼠進行藥物測試。原本年老老鼠的表現在50-60%的水準，接受藥物半小時後，年老老鼠的表現提升至80-90%，幾乎像年輕老鼠一樣好。另外，由於密閉空間的壓力，年輕老鼠的記憶暫時受損，這種藥物同時恢復年輕老鼠的正常表現。西貝爾表示：「我們逆轉了與年齡有關的記憶缺陷，令人感到雀躍」。

最新的研究更顯示，將藥物加入老鼠的飲用水，過2個月後，腦細胞又恢復生長到接近年輕老鼠的程度。西貝爾解釋：「我們實際可以培養腦細胞。腦細胞因年齡增長、神經退化性疾病（Neurodegenerative disease）而縮小。」

新藥望改善長者學習、記憶、決策、生活

記憶喪失與一種神經傳導物質「γ-氨基丁酸（GABA）」有關，GABA的主要工作是減緩神經元發射速度，抑制大腦中的背景「噪音」，使重要訊號被更容易處理。

加拿大研究開發的新藥是苯二氮平類（Benzodiazepines）的衍生物的標靶藥物，用於特定GABA受體，如與認知能力密切相關的海馬體。苯二氮平類藥物常用於安眠鎮靜。

西貝爾表示：「這種藥物可能改善學習、記憶、決策能力，和基本生活能力」。研究人員認為，藥物可以活化學習及記憶的特定細胞，在大腦的變化顯示，可以預防阿茲海默症發病時的記憶喪失，或延緩發病時間。

不過，這種新藥對於年輕老鼠並無幫助，不會為健康的年輕者提供超凡的記憶能力，西貝爾打趣地表示：「這種藥物不是給想在考試時更聰明的學生」。
